Darts Night – Winner

A good night was had by 22 Gyros. Darts in the basement of the Canadian German Cultural Centre. Came down to two expert darts enthusiasts Jeff Malott and Al Bleiken, the night was getting late (Scott had taken a picture of them both and left the premises) and neither one could hit the double 1 to end the game so it came down to one dart closest to the bulls eye. Al stepped up to the plate, swung mightily, and landed within two feet of the mark, Jeff calmly threw his dart within two inches of the mark and walked off with the prized bottle of wine. Congratulation Jeff.

Thanks to Don Greig the evening was a huge success, while the darts games were going on Don introduced a new dice game Left, Right, Centre to be played for coin. I suppose you like it if you win at it, I did like it. Thanks Don

Call for Nominations for 1st Lieutenant Governor

December 27, 2014

Fellow Gyro’s

Subject: Call for nominations for 1st Lieutenant Governor

We are in need of a District VIII leader for the Gyro years June 2015 to 2018.

The successful candidate will be 1st Lieutenant Governor from June 2015 to June 2016, Governor from June 2016 to June 2017 and Past Governor for the following year.

As you may recall we shortened the term to make it easier for potential candidates. It can be a very rewarding couple of years (The Past Governor doesn’t do much) as you meet more gyros and get involved with International affairs.

There are Perks for the job in that travel expenses and fees to International Interims, an International Convention and District conventions are paid by the District.

I believe that every Gyro should consider performing this function as a way of giving back to Gyro for all the fun taken out.

Please respond directly to me, any of our current executives or through your club President if you are willing to be nominated. Call me or email me if you have any questions.

Jim Malott
Past District Governor 780-868-2557

Scott

Love your sense of humour as always but your starting soliloquy rang a bell with me, change certainly is the essence of a full life. Thanks for the reminder.

President’s Christmas Party

Well it sure was an interesting night. I want to thank all the wonderful Gyro’s and Gyrettes for all they have done for Lynn and I. For those of you who didn’t attend the Party we had an unfortunate incidence as Lynn came down with what we believe was a Myocarditis attack of the heart and was taken to the UofA hospital just before dinner. She is still in the hospital as I’m writing this post, but in better spirits. They still need to complete an MRI tomorrow and hopefully she will return home after that. Thanks for all the prayers and messages it really shows the depth of family in Gyro.

In good Gyro spirit I understand that Bill Austin grabbed the bull by the horns and continued on with the program. Hope the meal was as good as it smelled when we left. Thanks Don for doing the honours of initiating Paul West into Sherwood Park Gyro. I also understand in Rikki’s absense Don passed the “fine box” around and we wound up with a donation of over $600 and the donation receipt was won by Lloyd Wilson. Lloyd has indicated that the donation has already been sent in.

I want to thank Lynn also as I asked her to lead us in prayer before the meal and she surprised me by reading a prayer our 9 year old  Grandson Isaac wrote, it was beautiful.

Quite an evening in all but it makes me proud to be a Sherwood Park Gyro.

Merry Christmas

Ray

Liar’s Dice

A good evening was had by about 22 Gyro’s at the Liar’s Dice event on Wednesday Dec 3. There were 31 previous members invited back for an evening with the Club but only 13 responses were received and one positive response. Jim Ford came out and reconnected with Gyro. Three tables of members vied for the $85 prize. The final table had “I never lie” Kleebaum, Honest Wilson, Oop’s Greig, Lucky Brisbin, Never Blink Bleiken, and myself. It came down to Lloyd and Gary picking on the others and then agreeing to split the pot.

Children’s Christmas Party

The event went off like clockwork, thanks to all the volunteers:
Peter S. provided check lists, contact names, etc.; Eric B. cut a $350
cheque for the clowns, Lee and Earl helped set up the tables and provided
all sorts of ideas; Bill A. rounded up a new Santa when he couldn’t be there
himself; Al B., as Santa, saved Bill A’s bacon – and what a great Santa he
was; and Bill C. , with his mantle of antlers, once again made sure Santa
arrived in one piece, on time. Last but not least, Art’s wife, Judy, kept
him on track throughout.
Many of us commented on the fact that the party was more congenial
for everyone with 68 attendees, vs 125 last year and several hundred the
year before.  Thanks to everyone who attended and who helped out.
