Auction Night

It was a good night Wednesday April 29th when 41 Gyro’s gathered together at the Canadian German Cultural Centre to share in the auction of 23 live auction items and 16 silent auction items. The auction items along with a couple of cash donations netted the club $6,550. Way to go Gyro’s.

Special thanks to Sid Slade for all his and his teams work setting it up and a special thanks to Auctioneer/comedian Bill Carter for his “standup work” and also to Jim and Jeff Mallot for taking care of the money and allowing us to gain our air miles by using our credit cards to pay off the auction items.

Everyone is still asking what the “expletive” was in that “Mystery Entertainment Package” supplied by Keith Bradley. Will Gary Jones ever let us know?

Please log-in to the website in order to be able to see who purchased which items. The prices paid for each item have been removed in order to protect the purchasers.

Thanks guys this goes a long way to completing our budget for the coming year.

Passing of Doug Porter

DSCN0347It is with great sadness and shock that I report the sudden passing of former Club member Doug Porter on Thursday April 2, 2015 at approximately 8:00 pm..

Doug was responsible for the current redesign of the Club’s website.

Doug and his wife Diane were playing cards with friends in another park when he had a sudden attack, stiffened and died on the spot. An autopsy will be performed not before Tuesday. Cremation will take place here in Mesa before they leave for Sherwood Park.

All 3 of their children arrived this morning to comfort their mother.

More details as to a memorial service will be provided when they are available.

Bowling

Apparently there was a good evening had by those who were there, obviously Bill Carters team was not in the money for a change. See his comments below when asked about the winners of the event!

Al Bleiken, Augie alphabet, Ken Lesniak, Bruce Schelske . It was fun. I have three members of my team that have qualified for my Special Olympics program. Regards, Achmed

Cheers Ray

Crib Night Winners

Hello Gyro’s,
The crib games went well on Wednesday Feb 4. We played singles. (One against one)
There were 14 people at the meeting and they all played some better then others. The players each put in $5.00, which we used as the prize money.
The winner of the “A” side was Scott Brisbin who beat out John Evans.
The winner of the B” side was Gary Kleebaum who edged out Eric Braun for the win.
Winners and second place shared in the money.

The 50-50 draw netted $35.00 to the club.

Auction Night

Gentlemen

To those who read notes from our website, please be advised that our Gyro Auction is coming up in a couple of months. It would be greatly appreciated that you put your thinking caps on and let me know what you will be donating. Just remember that the more items donated and auctioned off, the better our financial statement will be, thus better dues. Currently still in Florida and I know that many of you are in Arizona and California, and we expect to be home the first week of April.
Thanks for your participation and donations.

Special regards to all

Sid

Billards Night

We had 12 gyros show up. Quality not quantity. It was a fun evening. Jeff never made it back from Belize, so al Gordon helped me. The final was won by Don Greig and Achmed the Terrorist. There was superior skill from this duo and they beat Dorne Hunt and his partner Paul West like a couple of red headed stepchildren. I really want to thank all of the snowbirds for responding to the attendance request by Scott Brisbin. It is so nice to hear that you just got off of the golf courses and are having a rest before happy hour. If any of you bastards decide to have any more children, I hope they all walk backwards.

Love, Bill
